Bahrain Chamber Ensures Stable Food Supply and Prices for Ramadan

The Chairman of the Food Sector Committee at the Bahrain Chamber, Khalid Al Ameen, affirmed that sufficient stocks of meat and poultry will be available throughout Ramadan. He announced that over 200 traders had signed a commitment pledging not to raise prices during the holy month, providing reassurance to both consumers and retailers.

Speaking at the annual virtual meeting of the Food Sector Committee to discuss Ramadan preparations, Al Ameen highlighted the Chamber’s collaboration with the government to strengthen food security and establish Bahrain as a regional hub for food manufacturing and export. He emphasized the ongoing efforts to sustain food supply chains and introduced initiatives aimed at enhancing food and water security while fostering the growth of the local food sector.

He noted that some food commodities in Bahrain have seen price reductions of 10% to 15%, driven by discounts from international suppliers. He also assured that imported food supplies remain abundant year-round, with additional quantities being introduced during Ramadan to meet heightened demand. Traders and companies in Bahrain have responded proactively to market needs, ensuring a steady and reliable supply.

Al Ameen highlighted that Bahrain boasts 7,000 retail outlets, many of which have launched promotional campaigns and discounts that will run throughout Ramadan. These offers focus on essential Ramadan goods, catering to consumer purchasing power. The Ministry of Industry and Commerce is overseeing the process to ensure a seamless and convenient shopping experience.
He also highlighted a steady increase in fruit and vegetable imports, aligning with the expected daily demand of over 5,000 tons. These imports are sourced from multiple countries, including Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, Turkey, India, Pakistan, the Philippines, and South Africa.

Regarding the meat supply, Al Ameen assured that companies have ramped up efforts to meet the anticipated demand and are fully prepared to maintain adequate stock levels. Flour and grain suppliers are also well-equipped to meet market needs, with Bahrain Flour Mills Company ensuring a steady supply of key products.

Al Ameen commended food companies and hypermarkets for their continued cooperation with the Chamber, emphasizing their shared commitment to market stability for both consumers and traders. He reaffirmed that the Chamber, in partnership with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, remains dedicated to ensuring the availability of essential food supplies, particularly meat, throughout Ramadan, while working closely with the Consumer Protection Directorate to regulate prices and prevent unjustified increases.
