Bahrain Chamber’s Second Vice Chairman inaugurates “Powerelec Bahrain 2024”

Emphasizes private sector’s role in Bahrain's transition to a sustainable economy

Second Vice-Chairman of the Bahrain Chamber, Mohammed Al-Kooheji, inaugurated Powerelec Bahrain 2024 Conference and Exhibition themed "Bahrain's Net Zero Ambition: Unfolding Renewables, Green Hydrogen for a Sustainable, Decarbonized Economy," being held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, in the presence of Board Members, Basim Al-Saie and Abdulwahab Al Hawaj, Chairman of the Industry and Energy Committee at the Bahrain Chamber, Fareed Bader, as well as officials and industry experts.

During his opening speech at the conference, Al-Kooheji praised the efforts of the Kingdom of Bahrain to achieve a 30% reduction in emissions by 2035 and to reach net-zero emissions by 2060. He also emphasized the vital role played by the private sector in Bahrain's journey toward transforming into a sustainable, carbon-free economy. Al-Kooheji explained that these goals are not just aspirations but a genuine commitment to achieving sustainable development and improving the quality of life.

For his part, Bahrain Chamber’s Board Member, Basim Al-Saie, presented eight proposals aimed at reducing the carbon footprint, improving energy efficiency, and enhancing sustainability in Bahrain during the first general session of the conference titled "Destination 2030: Dream, Reality, and Action Plan." Al-Saie stressed the need for more efforts to reduce the carbon footprint, increase energy efficiency, adopt electric vehicles with appropriate infrastructure development, promote recycling and waste management, and increase green spaces through afforestation.

In a related context, the Chairman of the Industry and Energy Committee at the Bahrain Chamber, Fareed Bader, was also a keynote speaker in the first session, where he emphasized the importance of intensifying efforts to ensure a more sustainable future for upcoming generations. He pointed out that collaboration between the public and private sectors will be crucial in achieving Bahrain's ambitious goals, reinforcing its position as a key supporter of innovation and clean technologies in the region.

It is worth noting that Powerelec Bahrain 2024 is being held for the first time in Bahrain, organized jointly by the Chamber's Industry and Energy Committee and the Middle East Solar Industry Association (MESIA).
