During his meeting with the WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, at the organization's headquarters in Geneva, in the presence of the First Vice-Chairman of the Chamber, Khalid Najibi, and the Secretary-General of the Union of Arab Chambers, Dr. Khalid Hanafi, Nass stated that the World Trade Center is important for promoting intra-trade in various countries of the world. He praised the existing and fruitful cooperation between Bahrain and the WTO in various axes and frameworks, looking forward to the importance of continuing to enhance cooperation to open new horizons for joint work that contributes to achieving the desired goals.
Nass expressed the readiness of the Bahrain Chamber for a global trade conference in cooperation with the World Trade Organization to discuss global economic issues and developments, as well as mechanisms for developing intra-trade relations between various countries and enhancing investment partnerships between them.
From his side, Najibi, affirmed that the Chamber looks upon the World Trade Organization (WTO) as one of the main pillars for interaction and communication with various member countries to develop commercial and investment activities. He praised the significant efforts made by the organization in dealing with international trade and economic challenges, which are aimed at improving the global economic situation and reflecting the aspirations of the peoples, thus achieving the goals of sustainable development.
Najibi said that the movement of the global economy in the past and present has witnessed many and major obstacles, including challenges of food security, climate change, and geopolitical crises, as well as disruptions in global supply chains and the resulting decline in industrial and productive sectors in various countries of the world. He stressed the importance of enhancing the joint cooperation between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the World Trade Organization to utilize the available economic and investment opportunities for sustainable growth, which would benefit the Bahraini commercial sector.
On her part, WTO Director-General, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, expressed her delight at the invitation of the Bahrain Chamber to hold an economic conference in Bahrain. She also praised the distinguished relations between Bahrain and the WTO within the framework of the open economic, trade, and investment policies pursued by Bahrain to support the economic environment and attract investment.
